About the role

The Financial Controller takes ownership and responsibility for the accounting, finance and control processes for VALD, providing expert advice on accounting and governance matters.

Working closely with the CEO and leadership team, on a day-to-day basis you’ll likely:

  • Ensure all financial data is complete, accurate and all transactions are consistent with accepted accounting standards
  • Ensure excellent and consistent financial data quality
  • Manage the annual audit process with external auditors
  • Complete month/year-end tasks in line with VALD requirements
  • Provide a detailed, complete, and informative monthly balance sheet and cash flow reconciliations.
  • Partner with the commercial team to ensure the contract repository is always complete.
  • Take ownership of the accounts receivable and payable function to ensure an accurate and complete billing/invoicing schedule is maintained and supported with contractual evidence.
  • Ensure a strong and effective internal control and governance framework is in place, with revenue-related financial data compliancy and all transactions are consistent with VALD’s accounting policies and global and local reporting requirements.
  • Manage reporting requirements related to any covenants that may be in operation from time to time.

About you

There are some minimum requirements to qualify for this role. They are:

  • You are a CA or CPA qualified accountant with experience in Accounting, FP&A and financial reporting.
  • You have prior accounting, controlling, analysis and reporting experience in multi-country tax jurisdictions.
  • You have a thorough understanding of financial management information principles and terminology.

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate that you have a strong drive to understand the commercial drivers of a business, including proficiency in:

  • Numeric and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Presence, gravitas, and ability to influence stakeholders in both finance and non-finance roles.
  • Ability to communicate numerical information in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Adaptability to change and a proven track record of working in a fast-paced matrix organisation and with key working relationships being geographically remote.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical accounting – e.g. revenue recognition, capex, etc.
